What is Khelo India?
The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grassroots level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establishing India as a great sporting nation. Every year, the best 1,000 kids will be given an annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for eight years. On February 27 2019, PM Narendra Modi launched the Khelo India App at the Youth Indian Parliament in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to promote sports and fitness.

On January 31 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Khelo India School Game. The inaugural edition emulated the Guru-shishya tradition, which was held at the Indira Gandhi Arena, New Delhi.

This is the first time Khelo India Youth Game is going to be held in Tamil Nadu. Udhayanidhi Stalin reiterated that he would invite Modi to the event. However, when reporters quipped, will Modi come? Udhayanidhi said, “I am going to invite him; to participate or not is his wish,”
Venue of the Games
The 6th edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will be held from January 19 to 31, 2024. The upcoming edition will take place in four cities in Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Tiruchy, Madurai, and Coimbatore.

The previous editions of the Games were held in Delhi, Pune, Guwahati, Panchkula and Bhopal.

What is New in the Khelo India Youth Games?
The 2024 edition has made a significant addition by including a martial arts discipline as a featured sport for the first time. The games will showcase Silambam, an Indian martial art genre.

Moreover, before leaving for New Delhi, Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is in charge of youth welfare, expressed certainty that the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will allocate cash to the state after her visit to Tamil Nadu to evaluate the damage caused by rainfall and floods in Thoothukudi and neighbouring southern districts.
