Sharmila in AP Politics: Jagan Blames Naidu for Sibling Rivalry

YS Sharmila, once referred to as ‘Jagananna Vadilina Baanam‘ (Jagan’s arrow), is now gearing up to confront Jagananna. YS Sharmila, who has political ambitions, did not receive the attention she expected from her brother, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. As a result, she established her own political party, the YSRTP, in Telangana. After the failure of this attempt, she has now set a new goal—that is against her brother Jagan in Andhra Pradesh. Until now, the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh primarily featured the YSRCP versus the TDP-Janasena alliance. However, the focus is now shifting towards the growing rivalry between siblings YS Jagan and YS Sharmila in the upcoming days.

Jagan blames Naidu

In a recent public meeting, CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy indirectly blamed TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu for the rivalry with his sister YS Sharmila. Jagan stated that conspiracies against him would increase in the coming days, alliances would also grow to fight against him, and they could even split families for political gain. He appealed to the people to be alert to these political maneuvers, expressing his belief in the people and in God. Jagan made these comments at the public meeting in Kakinada, which was part of the YSR Pension Increase program.

Naidu’s counter to Jagan

TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu responded to CM Jagan’s comments where he indirectly blamed him. Naidu criticized Jagan, stating that he himself created a mess in his family, leading to differences between his sister and him. He accused Jagan of crying against TDP for these issues. Naidu mentioned that during the 2019 elections, Sharmila campaigned for YSRCP, claiming herself as ‘Jagananna Vadilina Baanam,’ and now she is going against him. Naidu questioned what he has to do with the matter of YS Jagan’s family issues. He stated that Jagan’s comments are like mud being thrown at them. Naidu predicted that Jagan would become a former chief minister after the month of April.

Sharmila’s factor in AP Politics

TDP and Janasena frequently criticise CM YS Jagan, alleging that he used his mother, YS Vijayamma, and sister, YS Sharmila, for political gains and later discarded them. They consistently emphasise this point, questioning how a man who seemingly does not value his mother and sister can be trusted to serve justice for the state. With YS Sharmila officially joining the Congress and politically going against her brother Jagan, the TDP and Janasena intensified their criticism against Jagan, using Sharmila’s political move as additional ammunition.

As of now, the Congress party has not appointed Y.S. Sharmila to any post within the party. Sharmila has stated that she is ready to take on any responsibility given by the Congress. One thing is clear: Sharmila’s next political focus is Andhra Pradesh. The question now is whether she can make an impact and potentially revive the Congress in the state.

General discussions suggest two main points. First, Sharmila’s entry could potentially benefit Jagan. If she splits the vote of the anti-YSRCP government, it might help the YSRCP. On the other hand, there’s another perspective. Sharmila could split the votes of Christian and Muslim minorities, as well as the hardcore followers of the late CM Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. This division could potentially damage the YSRCP’s chances of winning. Let’s wait and see which of these scenarios will unfold in the coming days.
