The former right-arm medium-fast bowler of the Indian Team and BJP Candidate Sreesanth is booked in a cheating case in Kerala. The 40-year-old Sreesanth is currently representing Gujarat Giants in the ongoing Legends League Cricket. Apart from speedster Sreesanth, another two individuals are also involved in the complaint of cheating. The complaint alleges that a resident of Choonda Kannapuram was deceived of a sum amounting to â‚ą18.7 lakh.

Who is the complainant?
In his complaint, Sareegh Balagopalan, a native of Kannur, claims that two Udupi natives, Rajiv Kumar and K Venkatesh Kinni, stole Rs 18.70 lakh from him with the promise that they would build a structure in his name in a resort in Kollur, Karnataka. Balagopalan stated that beginning on April 25, 2019, he was conned out of â‚ą18.7 lakh on several occasions.

Sreesanth and other culprits were charged under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with deceitfully obtaining property by deception. The FIR lists Rajiv Kumar, aged 50, and Venkatesh Kini, aged 43, as the other parties accused in the case. After taking up the case, the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court mandated an investigation into the claims.
How did it happen?
The two culprits along with Sreesanth promised to build a world class sports academy which will generate revenue for the long term. The accused requested money during different intervals in the name of infrastructure building and other clearances. Gradually, the money was allegedly seized, according to the complaint, for the purpose of building a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka, where Sreesanth is the third accused in the case.

According to the petition, Sreesanth and two other people did not begin work on the sports academy building or refund the funds. When the asked about retuning the money, the complainant was assured of becoming a partner in the Sports Academy that Sreesanth and the Udupi residents would launch. But nothing happened over the period of time and they stopped responding properly.

Habitual Offender
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) proposed to ban S Sreesanth and his teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for life in August 2013 due to their alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, in 2019, Sreesanth’s lifetime ban was lessened by a seven-year suspension and September 2020 marked the end of his seven-year ban. After serving his suspension, he returned to the field when he was selected for the Kerala Cricket Association’s (KCA) 20-man team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021.
No-Takers in IPL
S Sreesanth was nominated for the IPL auction in both 2021 and 2022, however, neither time did any bidders show up. Since making his Test debut in March 2006, Sreesanth has taken part in 27 matches, bagging 281 runs at an average of 87 wickets. Throughout his international tenure, which spanned from 2005 to 2011, he represented India in 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20Is, accumulating 169 wickets.

Nevertheless, through X Sreesanth said “I have no involvement with them whatsoever. It is truly disheartening to witness individuals attempting to amplify this situation into something significant. I assure you that legal action will be taken against these person ..thanks for the support”.

Moreover, Sreesanth proclaimed that all the allegations levelled against him were fake and fabricated. He is moving to court for justice and filing a complaint on the financier.
