One of the flagship programs of the Andhra Pradesh government, ‘Jagananna Arogya Suraksha,’ commenced its second phase on December 2nd. The YSRCP government conducted the first phase for 50 days between September and November 2023. The second phase of this program is planned on a large scale, spanning six months. The objective of this program is to bring the healthcare system to the doorsteps of the people. The program is being implemented in three steps across the state with the aim of providing healthcare services to the maximum number of people.
Implementation of Jagananna Arogya Suraksha
Jagananna Arogya Suraksha healthcare camps at the village level will commence on January 2nd, 2024, and at the town level, they will start from January 3rd, 2024. Fifteen days before the program, volunteers visited households in villages, providing information about the program and its benefits. Just three days prior to the program, volunteers, accompanied by local representatives, revisited houses in villages to remind residents about the upcoming initiative.
The second phase of this program began today, December 2nd, with the commencement of health camps. The government has planned to organize a total of 13,495 healthcare camps under ‘Jagananna Arogya Suraksha’ within a span of 6 months. Out of these, 10,032 camps will be conducted at the village level, and 3,922 camps will take place at the town level. For the month of January, the health department has set a target to conduct 3,583 health camps.

In every health camp, at least three doctors, including two specialists and one paramedical ophthalmic assistant, would be present. Health department officials have indicated that a total of 543 general medicine practitioners, 645 gynaecologists, 349 general surgeons, 345 orthopedicians, and 378 other specialist doctors would be available in the health camps. Seven different types of kits for screening tests for patients would be in the health camps. 92 categories of medicines would be available in village healthcare camps, and 152 categories of medicines would be offered in urban areas.
Doctors will refer patients to Arogyasri network hospitals if further treatment is required. Subsequently, the family doctor, community health officer, and ANMs will follow up and guide the patients referred to Arogyasri hospitals. Patients referred there will receive Rs. 500 for their transport charges. Separate counters will be set up for Arogya Suraksha patients to avail medical treatment in Arogyasri hospitals. Special officers have been appointed district-wise to supervise this entire Arogya Suraksha program in the state.

Special focus on those patients
In the first phase of ‘Jagananna Arogya Suraksha’ conducted last year, a total of 12,423 camps were held, and 60,27,843 people availed outpatient services. Among them, 1,64,982 patients were referred to Arogyasri network hospitals. This entire procedure was monitored through the app by the state healthcare department. In the second phase of the Jagananna Arogya Suraksha program, which is being commenced today, the health department focused on patients suffering from chronic diseases, anaemia patients, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and others.
