Why Gautami Tadimalla resigned from the BJP after serving more than 25 years?

On Monday, Gautami Tadimalla, the former wife of Kamal Haasan, a popular Tamil actor and a politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), tendered her resignation from the party. 

Illustrious Past with the Party

In 1997, she became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the guidance of LK Advani, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India. In addition, she actively participated in the political campaign for the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu during the late 1990s. Following the birth of her baby, she decided to take a sabbatical from her political activities. In 2017, she re-affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and subsequently assumed the role of in-charge for the Rajapalyam Assembly constituency in 2021. 

Sudden Resignation 

In her public resignation, she made allegations of financial, property, and document misappropriation by a fellow party member, C Alagappan. As a result of being duped and experiencing a breach of trust, she decided to resign from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Additionally, she expressed dissatisfaction regarding the insufficient level of help received from her colleagues. After herculean struggles, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under the name of C Alagappan, to whom she asserted having entrusted around two decades ago.

Reason for Resignation

Presently, she is at a juncture of profound crisis in her life, encountering a situation where she is devoid of any assistance from the BJP and its prominent figures.

Moreover, she has recently become aware that several individuals within the party have been actively aiding and abetting the person who has breached her confidence and deceived her by appropriating her hard-earned financial resources. 

It is noteworthy to point out her professional life spans 37 years in mediums such as cinema, television, radio, and digital media. Her hard-earned money was envisaged to give financial stability to her and he daughter. However, she was cheated by C Alagappan for her financial properties and confiscated critical legal documents.

Who is Alagappan?

She met Alagappan two decades ago when she was emotionally down, compounded by the fact that she was a single mother caring for a newborn kid. Alagappan strategically integrated with Gautami and garnered her trust. Later, he deceitfully did fraudulent actions, swindling her financially. However, she was aware of his deceitful actions later.

Alagappan had perpetrated a fraudulent conspiracy against her in all possible ways. It is worth pointing out that throughout this period, he maintained a façade of hospitality and inclusion, extending his purported family embrace to her and her daughter.

In pursuit of recovering her financial assets, properties, and legal papers, she approached the police station. But the culprit, using his tremendous political and economic influences, ceased her even to register an FIR.

Subsequently, she sent a series of petitions to the Chief Minster, higher police officials and legal authorities, but everything went in vain in front of his money and muscle power. 

Failed Promise

During the 2021 TN Assembly Elections, she was entrusted with the development of the Rajapalayam constituency for the BJP and assured the seat to contest, as well. Hence, she dedicated herself to the people of Rajapalayam and strengthened the BJP at the grassroots level. However, this assurance to contest was rescinded at the last minute.

Regardless, she maintained her commitment to the party. She was shattered; despite working for 25 years, she was denied a MLA seat. Moreover, she apprehended that she was sidelined by people inside the party itself, especially those who were close to Alagappan.

Annamalai and Khushbu’s Nexus

Once Annamalai took over as the president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, there was a strong resentment against his leadership style and functioning. Senior members in the party elucidated that he is still in the mindset of a Police officer, but Politics is entirely a different game. Moreover, there is a conspiracy going on that he sidelined all upper-caste senior leaders within the party, anticipating them as future rebels. There is a substantial allegation that Annamalai did not help Gautami to solve the internal issues which she faced within the party. He did not protect her or recommend her for specific party posts.

Recently, Actress Khushbu, who worked with DMK, then Congress and eventually moved to BJP was rewarded with an MLA post and national level posting shortly. In 2021 assembly elections. Khushbu got an MLA seat in Thousand Lights Constituency. Later Khushbu was nominated as a National Commission of Women (NCW) member for a period of three years.

The incidents, as mentioned earlier, infuriated Gautami, who worked for the party relentlessly for more than two decades. It was alleged that Annamalai promoted Khushbu. However, Annamalai commented that the Gautami misunderstood the reality and situation. And he further stated that he is with her trials and tribulations, not with the accused Alagappan as she imagines and alleges on him.
