The Michaung Cyclone pummelled 500 mm of rain, surpassing the 330 mm rainfall received during the devastating 2015 Chennai Flood. The Chennai and its surrounding regions were stranded as a result of Cyclone Michaung, bringing back terrifying memories of the December 2015 floods. According to preliminary reports, eight people were dead in cyclone-related incidents, and thousands were suffering in the city.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that We are facing the worst storm in recent memory. More than the 2015 flood, Cyclone Michaung has resulted in more incessant downpours. We have reduced and prevented loss of life to a great extent due to systematic improvements and comprehensive structural preparations.

CM MK Stalin Visited Flooded Areas
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited flood relief camps in Chennai on Tuesday, 5 December, following the devastation caused by Cyclone Michaung’s severe rains and flooding. He reviewed the rescue and relief work with a team of officials and experts.

Stalin met the people staying in relief camps in Chennai due to Cyclone Michuang and promised to solve their problems. Stalin told that he going to write a letter to the Prime minister seeking Rs.5000 crores as a relief package for the ongoing relief work and compensation. Without the stipulated amount, Tamil Nadu cannot come back to normal.

Stranded Chennai Airport
The water has receded in the Chennai airport area, and there is no water stagnation in the runways or taxiways, according to officials, who added that a large amount of slush and filth was being swept out.
The departures are being prioritised in order to clear the airport of stuck travellers. Moreover, at Chennai Airport, there are 21 aircraft on the ground and approximately 1,500 passengers within the terminals, and that ample food is available in airport outlets.
