The Missing Files: What’s Going On in Telangana Government Offices

KCR files burnt

Two days before the Telangana Assembly Election results, news broke of a fire accident at the Tourism Department office in Himayat Nagar, resulting in the gutting of key files. Subsequently, similar incidents have occurred in the offices of former ministers, where crucial files have gone missing. Last week, an incident involving missing files came to light at the Animal Husbandry office, which was under the ministry of Talasani Srinivas Yadav in the previous BRS government. Similar occurrences have been reported in the offices of the Education Department, formerly under the ministry of Sabita Indra Reddy in the previous government, as well as in the office of Srinivas Goud, the former Excise and tourism Minister.

Files Gutted in Tourism department

A fire accident occurred at the Tourism Department office in Himayat Nagar, Hyderabad, during the early hours at 3 am on December 1st, just two days before the election results. The fire broke out in the administration block on the first floor, and it was initially reported as a short circuit. In this unfortunate incident, files, furniture, and computers were damaged.

A few days prior to the fire, Manohar, the Managing Director of the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), had been suspended by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for violating the model code of conduct. This violation was related to accompanying the then Minister Srinivas Goud on a visit to Tirumala.

The fire incident at the Tourism office has raised suspicions. CPI National Secretary Narayana has alleged that it was a deliberate conspiracy intended to conceal corruption within the BRS government. He has demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident to uncover the facts behind it.

Students stop vehicle shifting files

Just days after the fire incident at the tourism office in Himayatnagar, some individuals attempted to relocate furniture, computers, and files from the office at Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad. Interestingly, both offices were under the then minister Srinivas Goud. While people were trying to move the files from the Ravindra Bharati office, some Osmania University students intervened, preventing them and lodging a complaint with the police. Subsequently, the police arrived at the scene, and files and furniture were kept in the same office.

Files missing at Talasani Srinivas Yadav’s office

Talasani Srinivas Yadav was the Minister of Animal Husbandry in the previous BRS government. Last week, at the office of Animal Husbandry in Masab Tank, Hyderabad, some crucial files went missing from the chamber of OSD Kalyan. On December 8th, the watchman discovered that OSD Kalyan’s office had been ransacked, and all the documents in the office were scattered. Allegations suggest that OSD Kalyan, along with four others, entered the office and took away the files. The police found that the cameras in the office were also damaged. A case has been registered against the accused under sections related to criminal breach of trust, trespass, fraudulent cancellation, destruction of valuable security, and abetment. The police are currently investigating the case.

Unknown people attempts to shift files from the education department

In the office of the State Council of Education at Basheerbagh, on December 10th, some unknown individuals attempted to move files from the office in an auto. Officials intervened upon noticing this, questioned the individuals involved, and subsequently, the auto driver and others abandoned the vehicle and fled. The office of Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister in the previous BRS government, is also in the same building.

Kishan Reddy demanded action against ‘file missing’ cases

Union Minister and BJP’s Telangana president, Kishan Reddy, has demanded for an inquiry into the missing files from government offices. He has urged for stern action against those responsible. Additionally, he questioned Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the IT raids conducted on Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu, during which officials discovered Rs. 350 crore in unaccounted cash. Kishan Reddy criticized the Congress, alleging that they have turned their MLAs and MPs into ATMs, and wherever the Congress government exists, corruption seems to thrive.

What actions is the government of Congress taking?

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his ministers have not responded to the reports of missing files in government offices. During the BRS rule in Telangana, the Congress party made multiple corruption allegations against the flagship programs Mission Bhageeratha, Mission Kakatiya, and the Kaleshwaram project. In their poll manifesto, the Congress committed to conducting a probe into the Kaleshwaram project once they assumed power.

Recently, lawyer Rapolu Bhasker filed a complaint with the ACB regarding the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project. He alleged that former CM KCR, Minister Harish Rao, and contractor Megha Krishna Reddy looted thousands of crores of rupees in the name of the project. Bhasker has urged the ACB to register a case and initiate an inquiry into these allegations. It remains to be seen how the Congress government will take action against the alleged corruption of the previous BRS government in the coming days.
