Telangana Elections: Congress Senior Leaders Clear Upper Hand over Revanth Reddy

revanth reddy

Revanth Reddy’s supporters refer to him as a Bahubali within the Congress party in Telangana. However, party seniors consistently assert their dominance over him by frequently differing with his decisions. On November 9th, the Congress party released its final list of candidates, and the influence of senior leaders such as Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Damodara Rajanarasimha is clearly visible. The Congress high command has granted tickets to these senior leaders’ supported candidates while neglecting Revanth Reddy’s supporters. This situation clearly illustrates that, despite Revanth Reddy’s status as the frontrunner for the Chief Minister post within the party, his authority is often circumscribed and overshadowed by other power centers within the party.

Revanth Reddy’s supporters’ names were missed on the list

The final list of candidates from the Congress party came as a shock to many due to the absence of Addanki Dayakar’s name, a loyalist to Congress and Revanth Reddy. Congress’s key leader, MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who strongly opposing Addanki Dayakar within the party, is behind this. During the Munugode assembly elections, Addanki Dayakar made abusive remarks against Komatireddy Venkat Reddy for not attending Congress party public meetings and election rallies.

A few months prior to this, Addanki Dayakar wrote a letter to the Congress high command, expressing his grievances against MPs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Uttham Kumar Reddy for encouraging Vaddepalli Ravi to join Congress. Ravi, who contested against him as a rebel, split votes, which Addanki Dayakar believes was the main reason for his defeat. Since then, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had been waiting for the right time to assert his power over Addanki Dayakar and succeeded in excluding Addanki’s name from the final list of candidates. Revanth Reddy found himself helpless in countering Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s influence at the high command. He may have feared that insisting on a ticket for Addanki Dayakar could disrupt Congress politics throughout Nalgonda district.

Patel Ramesh Reddy, who is also a supporter of Revanth Reddy, did not receive the ticket in the final list. He had expected to get the Suryapet assembly ticket, but the party high command awarded it to senior leader Ramreddy Damodar Reddy under pressure from MP Uttham Kumar Reddy. After failing to secure the ticket, Patel Ramesh Reddy’s family was break downs into tears, and they criticized the party leadership, feeling betrayed. Patel Ramesh Reddy had previously worked with the TDP and joined Congress in 2017, hoping for the ticket in 2018, but once again, he was overlooked. Revanth Reddy’s efforts to influence the high command on Patel Ramesh Reddy’s behalf were unsuccessful.

Neelam Madhu Mudiraj had previously been announced as the Congress candidate for the Patancheru assembly but was replaced by Katta Srinivas Goud in the final list. After leaving BRS and joining Congress, Madhu secured the Patancheru ticket, but in a last-minute twist, his candidacy was replaced. Madhu initially expressed his gratitude to Revanth Reddy at his house after receiving the ticket from Congress. However, following the replacement of his candidacy by the Congress party, he called on Mudiraj voters to defeat Revanth Reddy in Kodangal. Damodara Rajanarasimha, The former deputy CM, a senior leader in the Congress, exerted pressure on the party high command to replace Neelam Madhu with Katta Srinivas Goud. Here also, Revanth remains helpless.

Seniors have a clear upper hand over Revanth Reddy

After winning in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah and DK Shiv Kumar both vied for the Chief Minister post. Eventually, the party high command settled the issue by convincing DK Shiv Kumar. Shiv Kumar now holds the Deputy CM position, while Siddaramaiah is the CM. Recently, when Siddaramaiah was questioned about CM seat sharing, he firmly stated that he will remain the CM for the full term of 5 years. In Karnataka, it’s Siddaramaiah versus DK Shiv Kumar. In Telangana, it’s Revanth Reddy versus senior leaders such as Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Uttham Kumar Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka, Jaggareddy, and Damodara Rajanarasimha.

From the day Revanth Reddy was appointed as TPCC chief, he has facing differences with senior leaders. However, it appears that they are all working together for the party’s victory in the upcoming elections. But the final list and the politics surrounding ticket allocations clearly indicate the seniors have the upper hand over Revanth Reddy. It is clear that even though Revanth Reddy is the President of the Congress in Telangana, the party’s high command is limiting his powers and giving priority to seniors.
