Telangana Elections: Candidates who Violated the Model Code of Conduct

Telangana Poll Violations

BRS Candidate Koushik stated during a roadshow for election campaigning that he would organize a victory rally in the event of his election win. But, if he did not win, then he would commit suicide with his wife and daughter and requested voters to attend his funeral procession on December 4.

The video of Koushik uttering the remarks went viral and was met with criticism from a wide range of individuals. Kaushik Reddy is contesting against BJP MLA and former minister Eatala Rajender and Congress candidate Vodithala Pranav. On a serious note, Kamalapur police registered a case for violating the model code of conduct (MCC).

Though this video went viral and many internet users spoke their mind on this bizarre statement, there are many other Poll violations that happened during the recently concluded Telangana Elections.

Indrakiran Reddy Pink Shawl

The BRS minister Indrakaran Reddy, allegedly violated the poll code by wearing a pink scarf which carried the BRS logo car, when he came to vote. After exercising his franchise at Yelappeli Village in Niramal, he met voters with the same dress. The Congress party has lodged a complaint with the election authorities against the minister.

Kavitha to “Influence Voters”

K Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and leader of the Bharat Raksha Samithi (BRS), has been charged with violating the model code of conduct. Kavitha said “Especially to the young men and women, I sincerely appeal to you to please come and vote. Today is not a holiday; it is a day to participate in and strengthen democracy,”

Telangana Congress Leader G Niranjan lodged a complaint with the polling body alleging that Kavitha solicited votes for her party from individuals outside of a polling station while they were voting.

We got the people accompanying him arrested by police. But the police released them in 10 minutes.”  Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) workers stopped him and registered a complaint to the Election Commission.

Durgam Chinnayya’ Shawl

Bellampally MLA Durgam Chinnayya of the Manchyryala district arrived at the polling station donning a party shawl. After his casting his vote while wearing a BRS party shawl, he met voters and gave opinions to the press. Moreover, intend to lodge a formal complaint against Durgam Chinnayya on the grounds of election rule violation.

Other Major Complaints

Telangana BJP Chief Kishan Reddy filed a complaint against the BRS candidates and workers alleging that they are indulging in electoral malpractices and fraud.  Congress filed a complaint against the AIMIM party alleging that the AIMIM party workers are purportedly engaged in rigging and bogus voting in Chandrayanagutta, Charminar and Bahadurpura.”

Earlier Congress leader Randeep Singh complained to the Election Commission of India (ECI) against BRS Leader KT Rama Rao for his announcement of job-recruitment at T-Works at the T-Work office and the interaction with the youth. Based on the complaint, ECI has sought an explanation from Rama Rao. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj intimated, that in some cases, FIR has been lodged and in other cases, ECI is observing the nature of the allegations and it has been forwarded to the respective district electoral officers.
