Telangana Elections 2023: A Hat-Trick Win for BRS Spells Bad News for TDP

brs tdp

The Telangana election results are causing tension for the BRS and Congress parties as they await the assembly election results. Simultaneously, the BJP and TDP are feeling anxious, with one hoping for the BRS’s victory and the other wishing for the Congress party’s success. In the 2018 elections, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu put all his efforts into defeating KCR’s BRS but did not succeed. This time, Chandrababu is trying to fire KCR from the shoulders of Revanth Reddy. After exit polls predicted the Congress party’s victory, TDP workers are eagerly awaiting Revanth Reddy’s oath-taking ceremony. But if exit poll predictions go wrong, as in the 2018 assembly elections, if Brs wins, it will be bad news for the TDP.

Naidu is looking for revenge against KCR..!

Chandrababu Naidu, who was allegedly involved in the “vote for cash” case, received a warning then from CM KCR, who stated, ‘even God cannot save him.’ Subsequently, Chandrababu Naidu shifted his residence to Andhra Pradesh. Since then, he has been waiting for an opportunity to seek revenge against KCR. In the 2018 assembly elections, Chandrababu Naidu joined hands with Congress to defeat KCR. Despite exit polls suggesting that the BRS government would be replaced by a coalition government of Congress, TDP, TJS, and CPI, Maha Kutami only secured 21 seats, while BRS won with a significant majority of 88 seats out of 119.

Addressing the media after the election results, KCR vowed to give a return gift to Chandrababu Naidu. This has become true as TDP faced a resounding defeat by YSRCP in the 2019 Andhra assembly elections, securing only 23 seats out of 175.

Chandrababu Naidu’s revenge plan against KCR turned out to be a failure, with KCR successfully delivering a return gift by ensuring Naidu’s loss of power in Andhra Pradesh. Speculations arose that in the 2018 Telangana assembly elections, Naidu sponsored the entire campaign expenditure for Maha Kutami candidates, similar to speculations about KCR financially supporting Jagan in Andhra elections.

In the current Telangana assembly elections, TDP decided not to contest, indirectly supporting the Congress party in its bid to defeat KCR. Two reasons were cited for TDP’s non-participation: to undermine KCR and to promote Revanth Reddy as Chief Minister. Not just on field, TDP is also helping Congress big time on social media too. There is a demand from TDP media handles that TDP needs to amend their differences with Sunil Kanugolu for 2024 Andhra Polls.

Revanth Reddy, a close associate of Chandrababu Naidu, rose in politics with Naidu’s encouragement. Despite being the Telangana president of the Congress party, Revanth Reddy openly acknowledges himself as a product of TDP. In a recent interview, he declared that he is the “daughter” of TDP and “daughter-in-law” of the Congress party. He actively sought the support of Telangana TDP cadre for the Congress party in these elections. Although Revanth Reddy lacks significant achievements in his political career, he has become a formidable leader in Telangana by consistently targeting KCR. With KCR facing anti-incumbency sentiment, this has worked to Revanth Reddy’s advantage.

During Naidu’s alleged involvement in a skill development scam and subsequent imprisonment, the BRS government denied permissions for protests supporting Naidu in the IT corridor of Hyderabad. This further fueled anger among TDP followers against the KCR government, leading them to support the Congress party. Chandrababu Naidu, unable to take revenge against KCR, has now entered the scene, supporting Revanth Reddy. TDP workers on the ground and on social media have made strong efforts to ensure the victory of the Congress party. Concerns have been expressed on social media by the BRS party and some Telangana activists, suggesting that if Revanth Reddy assumes the CM chair, he will be controlled and directed by Chandrababu Naidu like a shadow CM. In the event of a Congress victory, Chandrababu Naidu and his media are likely to portray it as a significant return gift to KCR.

If KCR wins.. second return gift for Naidu?

If BRS secures victory in Telangana for a third consecutive term, it could pose challenges for Chandrababu Naidu in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh elections scheduled in the next couple of months. It is an open secret that KCR supports YS Jagan, so a win for KCR in Telangana would significantly boost Jagan’s prospects. In the 2014 assembly elections, KCR confidently predicted that TRS would prevail in Telangana and YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh. However, YSRCP fell short of the required majority to form the government. In 2019, they achieved a landslide victory with 151 seats. If KCR secures a hat-trick in power, Chandrababu Naidu might receives a second return gift from him. Not only Naidu but also his supportive media, which took an anti-BRS stance, could face consequences.
