Skanda is a film directed by Boyapati Sreenu, starring, Ram Pothineni, Sreeleela, Saiee Manjarekar, and others. as the movie is directed by Boyapati (here after referred as Lord Boya), who is a genre himself. The tollywood director is world famous for his loud extravaganza cinema making. His last release Akhanda starring the physics defying south star Balakrishna, was a commercial hit. Skanda is a mindless masala entertainer. The film is a typical early 2000s flick where you can expect many action sequences massy songs, intros etc.

After a poor theatrical run, the movie released on OTT platform Disney Hotstar on 2nd November. In a day, internet was filled with scene by scene postmortem of the film. Whoever watched it on OTT, couldn’t resist themselves from sharing there views online.

A decent story became victim to over-elevation of certain individual (not even the protagonist) of the hims. With a single arrow, Ram Pothineni has Olympic grade archery skills to slit through three live electric wires that breaks in fraction of seconds to kill 20 – 30 goods in split second. Three different battalions, from three different directions, all loaded with powerful guns, yet, not a single bullet can cause a scratch to Ram Pothineni. There’s more, Ram can abduct two grown up girls, from Chief Minister, killing all his powerful Z+ security. The director forcefully made some political comments as Lord Boya is known to be close to Telugu Desam party Supremo Chandrababu Naidu. An ethical hacker from Stanford University (Possible reference to alter ego of Nara Lokesh) turns a vigilante and goes on a rampage against highly powerful opponents.

Probably this is the reason why TDP affiliated media was promoting the film very furiously. However the movie’s business shows it is loss for the film makers.

The Plot

The chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana become enemies over a marriage. Then the hero kidnaps both the daughters of both the chief ministers and what follows is a mind-bending action bonanza. Logicless approach is a common trait in Lord Boya’s films, this film is no exception. The leading ladies of the film have very less to do. The women characters are so irrelevant that basic details on character development is also given a miss. However in this movie, the detailed scan by audiences on X is much interesting than the film itself.

The villains of the movie are written to just fill the screen. The characters are so well directed by Lord Boya that, they just show up on screen whenever they want, they keep flying in mid-air for no specific reason.
