The film is about how two good friends became arch-rivals. The Salaar’s plot is set in the fictional city of Khansar, where the protagonists Deva and Vardha encounter to solve the conflict.
The Deva (Prabhas) has a shadow past but lives in tranquillity. When the gangster searches for Aadhya (Shruti Haasan), Deva enters the scene and finds that Varadharaja Mannar (Prithviraj Sukumaran), his best friend, is in serious business. What happens next unfolds the story.

The movie is a roller coaster ride of adrenaline rush-pumping action film. The production value of the film is top-notch. The film’s first half builds tension and immerses us in melodrama with a bit of humour. Prabhas’ performance could be better; he cannot elevate scenes.

Prithviraj did justice to Vardharaja Mannar’s role; he delivered a fabulous performance. The climax is enthralling. The BGM doesn’t create significant value for the visuals; it falls short of expectations. The dialogues and VFX failed to make a substantial impact, which deterred the film’s narration.

Ujwal Kulakarni’s editing could have been trimmed more to reduce the sluggishness, especially in the second hour. Director Prashanth Neel’s technical prowess is exemplary, but he failed to deliver a good screenplay. The film’s second half vanishes to hold the audience and disappoints terribly.
The cinematography seems dark in tone, and the action scenes entertain those who love action sequels. The 2 hours and 55 minutes duration is dragging the movie. The high level of violence and the slow second half is a drawback. If you love action movies and have patience, then this movie is worth watching.
