The Mumbai Indians sacked the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, winning Captain Rohit Sharma on December 15 and replacing all-rounder Hardik Pandya as the new Skipper for the IPL 2024. 

The decision was despicable to the Mumbai Indian fans, and within an hour, MI lost 400K followers on its Twitter page. Rohit Sharma led the MI for more than a decade with inspiring leadership and a cultivated hardcore fan following. 

Return of Hardik to the Den of MI

Hardik Pandya, who debuted for MI, was an exceptional player, but he went to the Gujarat Titans Franchise for two years. He led the team for two consecutive finals and won one title in IPL 2022, getting the MI franchise’s attention. It is reported that Hardik Pandya demanded the captaincy and set as a condition if he wanted to return to the Mumbai Indians team. The information was passed to Rohit, who accepted to play under Hardik.

Mumbai Indians Players Vent Against the Sack

The swashbuckling Suryakumar Yadav expressed his displeasure over Instagram and Twitter by posting a heartbreak emoji and this cryptic message about his Anguish about the freaky decision of MI management. 

In an interview, right-arm speedster Jasprit Bumrah had shown interest in captaining India. Bumrah was appointed as Captain of India for the T20Is in Ireland in August but was later replaced with Ruturaj Gaikwad. When Hardik was traded from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians, Bumrah posted on his Instagram page, “Silence is sometimes the best answer.” it seems he was unhappy with the decision, speculating he might be the future Captain of MI.

Rohit Sharma’s Wife and Fans Rapid Reaction

Rohit Sharma’s Wife reacted to the Instagram message of CSK with a Yellow heart, but she did not react or even like the message of MI.

The Mumbai Indians lost 4 lakh followers within 1 hour, and presently 5 lakhs are gone due to the decision to sack Rohit.

Following the trend on X (Twitter), the official Instagram page of Mumbai Indians also experienced a decrease of around 300,000 followers.

Heaping Praise on Former MI Skipper Rohit

In a podcast, actor Suniel Shetty equated Rohit Sharma with MS Dhoni. He told, everything he did in the World Cup was so selfless, it was for the team.

Former KKR Captain Gautam Gambhir, via Star Sports, intimated, “The only captain who gave me sleepless nights was Rohit Sharma.”

Former Indian Batsman Mohammad Kaif expressed via X that, “Rohit Sharma shaped Mumbai Indians, gave them template to win, made it a champion side. His role can never be forgotten. Hardik has very large shoes to fill. “

Mumbai Indians Fans Berserk on Social Media

One heartbroken fan on X stated,” The only mistake of Rohit Sharma is that he trusted Mumbai Indians.”

Another disappointed angry MI fan burned the MI jersey and showed his rage.

An ardent Telugu lad seeks Rohit to return to SRH and assures him we will treat you like God.

Another fan, through a video message on X, became MI fan because of Sachin Tendulkar; later, he followed the team for Rohit’s batting and captaincy. And he stated that, But handing over captaincy to Clown Hardik from Rohit Sharma broke my heart. “So I hereby resign as an MI Fan. Will continue supporting Rohit Sharma wherever he plays.”

Another fan told “Mumbai Indians without Rohit Sharma will become RCB”

The X platform started trending by the hashtag of #RestinMI where Rohit Sharma fans are boycotting Jio Sim after what they did with Rohit Sharma. No disrespect will be tolerated !!!

Another Rohit fan via X said Mumbai Indians is another Delhi Capitals without Rohit Sharma. RIP MUMBAI INDIANS.

One hardcore Rohit fan broke his Reliance Jio phone to protest against Ambani’s disrespect Rohit.

One X user sarcastically connected the conflict of captaincy between Rohit and Hardik with the movie Bahubali, stating there is only one Captain, that is Rohit Sharma.

One X user exposed that the MI did to Pollard earlier and now with Rohit Sharma.

Another Rohit fan broke his Reliance sim card to protest against Ambani’s disrespect to Rohit.

The most successful IPL franchise CSK on X, shared a picture of Rohit giving handshake to their legendary captain MS Dhoni and mentioned 2013 to 2023 : A decade of spirited challenge!  Much respect, Rohit!

Dhoni became the Captain of CSK in 2008, and Rohit and Kohli became captains in 2013. Rohit got sacked, and Kohli stepped down, but MS Dhoni is still leading his team to win another IPL Trophy.
