OTT Suggestion: LOKI is undoubtedly the greatest character arc written by Marvel

Loki Season Review

When we are first introduced to Loki in the MCU, his primary desire, the things that motivated him the most, was power, jealousy and being neglected. All he always wanted was love from dad. He has lost everyone he has ever loved, and he used to think that power is the thing that could get them back, and in the end, he ends up alone bound to the cosmic world tree, ‘The Ash Yggdrasil’. The world tree’s each branch represents 9 realms of a timeline.

Loki mentions in season 2, that, “Some years ago, my brother was banished from Asgard and sent to Earth. And when he came back, he was different. Changed somehow. I thought it was a weakness. I mocked him. Said he’d gone soft.” Technically in the MCU, the earth timeline is Earth 616 and Loki escapes from the same earth to TVA during the End Game.Loki mentions in season 2, that, “Some years ago, my brother was banished from Asgard and sent to Earth. Loki’s arc from Endgame to the show is about how he only wants power because he thinks it means he won’t be alone; his greatest fear, the thing he has really been wanting this entire time, is to not be alone. He realized he had reached the edge of time and the people he met in TVA are the friends he always longed for. Mobius and his conversations are casual but for the writer of the show the conversations are on a deeper level.

The Glorious Character Arc

Loki’s character in Thor Part I, wanted to do something bigger for everyone and in the end of the Loki Season two he repeats the same words with a fulfillment. His character now, knows his purpose of being there for everyone. He is not selfish anymore. He now, looks at all the stories, all the people, all the timelines, all at once. So, he has the ability to learn more than any character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He realizes he will be alone for the eternity.

Loki wanted to be the king and wanted the throne at any cost for himself. He was ready to the pay the price, no matter how big it was. Now finally Loki gets the cosmic throne and he now rules over all timelines. He is now the one Who Remains.

Loki, when he comes to TVA in the first episode, asks Mobius, if TVA is the greatest power in the universe! And now, he hold the very power in his hands.

He gets to meet other powerful Lokis of other timelines and realizes, he is not the only one with a glorious purpose. At the end, he gets the power that he wanted, he gets the throne, and it takes him away from his loved ones. It’s a sacrifice, a burden, not glorious but heartbreaking. But, he choose that throne for himself to save everyone. This sacrifice is bigger than that of Tony Stark in Endgame. Tony is dead, he is not coming back and he doesn’t have to long for others. But, Loki is sitting as the God of time holding the branches, he has to watch his friends go by, live their lives, die and reborn in the sacred timeline. He becomes The cosmic world tree, the god of stories, fulfilling his glorious purpose as the guard of the sacred timeline.

Different powers of Loki

We now know that time slipping hurts Loki. Mobius says it looks painful and Loki tells him he can handle it. “HANDLE it!” and in the final episode, he time slips over and over again in an attempt to save his friends.

Loki possesses all the powers of the infinity stones, and it shows that his powers are just lying within his reach. He needs to find the calling for them. He learns to control time, reality, strength, space portals and Mind throughout the season. Only soul stone is the power, he currently doesn’t posses the powers of.

Whats in store for Loki in future

The cosmic world tree isn’t like a loom.  It doesn’t need someone there to work on it and maintain it.  It’s not an industrial instrument created by man, it’s a living thing that eventually perpetuates itself if it’s given enough care at the start.  At some point, the tree will be sustainable by itself. Loki might just show up on MCU sixth phase and he might finally be the reason for the comeback of many other loved characters like Iron Man. But as the chaotic aura of Loki follows him, he might just create more amazing stories for all of us.
