Know the New T20 Captain of the Indian Cricket Team: Surya Kumar Yadav

India’s Suryakumar Yadav is all set to make his T20 captaincy debut against the Aussies at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag for a five-match T20I series. SuryaKumar Yadav was also a part of the Men in Blue’s devastating 6-wicket loss in the just-finished ICC ODI World Cup final. Suryakumar, who is leading the Indian team in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. But with the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA roughly six months away, the focus will now shift to T20Is.

Who is SuryaKumar Yadav? 

Surya, or SKY as he is fondly called by the fans. SKY made his first-class debut against Delhi during the 2010-11 Ranji season. He was signed to an IPL contract by the Mumbai Indians in 2011 after they were impressed by his talent. He participated in a few IPL games for them until 2013. After joining the Kolkata Knight Riders, he proved to be a valuable asset lower in the lineup, making several impactful cameos for the team. Suryakumar spent four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders, starting in their second IPL title-winning year, 2014.

An online campaign has been going on in support of Suryakumar before the the big match. The campaign is on his career and his Yadav identity. A recent press conference of Suryakumar, where only 2 reporters turned out, provided a perfect stage for this campaign.

Incredible Batting in IPL

MI once again resigned him, which turned out to be a revelation. Suryakumar, who was selected to begin the batting in the 2018 Indian Premier League, ended up scoring the most runs for Mumbai with an incredible 512 runs (Avg. 36.57, S/R 133.33). Hard-hitting 360-degree batter Suryakumar Yadav has all the shots, like proteas Star batsman AB de Villiers.

SKY T20 Statistics 

SKY have an amazing track record in T20 international format. In 53 matches, he scored 1841 runs with an outstanding strike rate of 172.70. He has three hundred and fifteen fifties with a highest score of 117. In the recently concluded World Cup, Suryakumar’s performance was somewhat not up to the mark. He will be playing against the public reaction in Visakhapatnam as well.

T20 Squad

From the ODI World Cup squad, Suryakumar, Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna are the only ones named for the whole series, while Axar Patel, who was ruled out of the World Cup with a quadriceps strain, is back.

His Message to Team

With both teams to play a second-string side, Suryakumar wants the young India team to play fearless cricket and do all that helps the side.

Suryakumar said, “I am a guy who doesn’t think much of personal milestones ahead of team goals. Hence, I told them to keep the team’s interests first and then whatever comes after that, they can take their call. I have played with them a lot of times during the IPL and a few India games and they know how I function, and it wasn’t that difficult to communicate my thoughts. We are excited about the series,”

Match Schedule 

The first match will be played in Visakhapatnam before the caravan moves to Thiruvananthapuram (November 26), Guwahati (November 28), Raipur (December 1), and Bengaluru (December 3).
