Indrasena Reddy as Governor, BJP puts Priority on Telangana Ahead of Elections

Indrasena Reddy

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Nallu Indrasena Reddy, a senior leader from the BJP in Telangana, as the 19th governor of Tripura. This official statement was released on Wednesday, October 18th. It is worth noting that this appointment comes just before the assembly elections in Telangana. With this recent appointment, three BJP members from Telangana have been given the opportunity to serve as governors since the BJP came into power at the central level. Previously, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and Bandaru Dattatreya had the opportunity. Currently, Dattatreya is working as the Governor of Haryana, while Vidyasagar Rao’s term as the Governor of Maharashtra ended in 2019.

Nallu Indrasena Reddy was born in Ganubanda village, Garidepalli mandal, Suryapet district. His parents are Nallu Ramreddy and Hanumaiah. He completed his MSc from Osmania University in 1972 and MPhil from Kakatiya University in 1975. In 1980, he joined the BJP and subsequently got elected as the MLA from the Malakpet constituency in 1983, 1985, and 1999. In 2014, he contested from Bhongir Lok Sabha constituency on behalf of the BJP but was defeated. During the time when Andhra Pradesh was a combined state, he served as the BJP state president. In 2022, the BJP high command appointed MLA Eatala Rajender as the chairman of the joining committee, replacing Indrasena Reddy.

Congress complaint to the EC

The Congress party has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India regarding the appointment of Indrasena Reddy as governor. Congress claims that this move is an attempt to influence voters in Telangana, where elections are scheduled for November 30th. The party has urged the EC to stall the appointment.

BJP top leadership focus on Telangana

Ahead of the Telangana assembly elections, the BJP high-command is fully focusing on the state to make an impact. The party’s top leadership is frequently visiting the state and conducting public meetings. In order to do this, PM Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh have participated in public meetings in recent days. During Modi’s attendance at the Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad public meetings, he attacked Telangana CM KCR and revealed that KCR had requested him to include the BRS party in the NDA. At the same time, he announced the establishment of a tribal university in Mulugu district and the setup of a Turmeric Board in Nizamabad. The Turmeric Board has been a long-standing demand by the farmers there. As the elections draw nearer, the BJP is giving priority to the poll-bound state of Telangana. In the coming days, on the 27th, Amit Shah, on the 28th, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma, and on the 30th, UP CM Yogi Adityanath will be visiting Telangana to attend BJP programs in the state.

BJP yet to announce candidates for elections

The Telangana assembly elections are scheduled to be conducted on November 30th, with the results being announced on December 3rd. BRS has already announced its candidates for 115 assembly seats, and recently confirmed MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy for one of the 4 pending seats, Janagoan. The Congress has released its first list with 55 candidates, while the BJP is yet to announce its list. According to reports, the BJP’s first list, expected to include 40 members, may be released on October 19th. The BJP is appealing to the people of Telangana to give them a chance, as they claim that both the Congress and TRS ruling witnessed by state public and claiming complete development of the state is only possible with BJP.
