Family Switch Review: A Decent Christmas magic movie for the holidays

family switch

“Family Switch” is a simple comedy, offers nothing new but stays true to the title and the genre. Jennifer produced this movie which looks like a rip-off her own movie “13 Going On 30”. It’s a cliché body switch movie where a couple who has two teenagers, one toddler, and One dog switch bodies due to Christmas magic.

The confusion that follows and the cliché dad jokes, like we have seen before in movies like ’17 again’ takes the center stage. The movie is a Christmas movie made for a family watch, so the audience knows what to hope for. The movie delivers on family values, parenting lessons, and light comedic moments.

Emma Myers, who plays a teenage American girl, with a dream to play national level football, is a performance to watch out for. This is her second major role in a Netflix project after the success of “Wednesday”.

Matthias Schweighöfer, plays the responsible neighbor and a rather forgettable performance after delivering good performances in other Netflix projects like Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves.

In other notable performances we have Ed Helms and Jennifer Garner, who play their roles with ease as they have been doing similar kinds of roles for years now.

The Plot

CC (Emma Myers) doesn’t blend with the family as she thinks, she is the odd one. Wyatt (Brady Noon) prefers to stay in his own digital world. The toddler Miles and the dog Pickles, both envy each other for the attention of the elders. The parents, Jess and Bill, have sacrificed their dreams for their kids. The family visits a planetarium super-telescope to view a “quintuple planetary alignment, a galactic confluence of the highest order of magnitude.” After smashing the telescope, they are struck by an enigmatic force, and the following morning, they find themselves in reverse roles—CC and Jess, Bill and Wyatt, and Miles and Pickles.

Now the mother has the play football at school, the daughter has to give a business presentation, The dad has to go attend an interview for Yale University, The boy has to go fix dad’s rock band, The dog is now the toddler and the toddler is the family dog. Confusion and comedy blend in slowly.

There movie ends like every 90’s movie did, with a rock band song. If you are looking for a decent comedy for the whole family to watch on Christmas eve, then this is for you.
