The Andhra Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has disbursed ₹81.64 crore in the fourth tranche of the YSR Kalyanamasthu and YSR Shaadi Tohfa schemes. This financial aid is directed towards girls who were married between July and September 2023. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy personally facilitated the direct transfer of funds to beneficiaries, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting girls from economically challenged backgrounds.

Key Highlights:

Direct Deposit: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy initiated the release of funds at his camp office in Tadepalli on November 23, directly depositing ₹81.64 crore into the bank accounts of 10,511 beneficiaries.

Target Beneficiaries: The schemes primarily target girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including those from SC, ST, BC, minority, construction workers’ families, and the differently-abled category. The financial aid is designed to facilitate their pursuit of education.

Educational Focus: The government has made it compulsory for the brides and the grooms to pass the 10th class examination to avail of the benefits of the schemes. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasized that the schemes are geared towards supporting girls in continuing their education. Conditions such as passing the 10th class examination and marriageable age limits (18 for girls and 21 for boys) have been set to ensure the effectiveness of the initiatives.

Impact on Education: Out of the 10,511 beneficiaries, 8,042 have availed benefits from other education-centric schemes like Amma Vodi, Vasathi Deevena, and Vidya Deevena. This indicates a positive impact on higher education enrollment.

Preventing Child Marriages: The schemes, in conjunction with other welfare programs, aim to curb child marriages, reduce dropout rates, and increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in schools and colleges.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy compared the benefits provided during the TDP rule, highlighting significant increases in financial aid for SC, ST, BC, and Minority beneficiaries under the YSRCP government. Some beneficiaries from different districts expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy through virtual interactions, acknowledging the positive impact of the implemented schemes.

Social Welfare Minister M. Nagarjuna, Women and Child Welfare Minister K.V. Usha Sricharan, BC Welfare Minister Ch. Venugopala Krishna, Labour Minister G. Jayaram, and others were present during the event.

Additional District Allocation:

In a related development, 372 eligible couples in NTR district received ₹3.25 crore as financial assistance under the ‘YSR Kalyanamasthu’ and ‘YSR Shaadi Tohfa’ schemes on Thursday. Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy released ₹81.64 crore for 10,511 beneficiaries across the State, including 352 couples in Krishna district who received ₹2.79 crore under the fourth tranche.

The scheme, aimed at economically weaker sections and those who have passed Class X, has distributed ₹10.17 crore to 1,290 couples in the first three installments in Krishna district.

The direct deposit into the bank accounts of 10,511 beneficiaries, coupled with stringent educational criteria, showcases a strategic focus on transforming lives through education. As virtual interactions echo gratitude and additional district allocations further amplify the impact, it’s evident that this initiative reflects a holistic commitment to inclusive development, preventing child marriages, and fostering education in financially challenged communities.
